Kelowna & District Safety Council (KDSC) is an organization devoted to the promotion of public safety, so we feel an especially great responsibility, during the current COVID-19 pandemic, to take all steps needed to ensure that our programs are safe for both participants and staff. During the pandemic, we will conduct only those programs for which we can provide essential safeguards with respect to social distancing and disinfection of surfaces, and thank you for your understanding if some programs have been postponed or canceled. Participation in all KDSC programs is also now limited to a number that allows appropriate social distancing within our facility, or in other instruction sites.
All KDSC program participants (or their adult guardians, on the participant’s behalf) are advised that if they are experiencing any symptoms that might be related to COVID-19 (fever, dry cough, tiredness, aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure) that they should not come to a course, even if previously registered, and should contact us via email or phone to advise us our situation, request a refund, or reschedule as medically appropriate. No one will be financially penalized (e.g. cancellation fees) for observing COVID-19-related safety guidelines, and we will take all reasonable measures to reschedule courses for people who cannot participate as scheduled because of COVID-19 exposure or infection.
All KDSC program participants (or their adult guardians, on the participant’s behalf) will be required to sign an affidavit, before beginning their course, that they are not now, or have not recently, experienced any symptoms that might be related to COVID-19, that they have not been advised within the past 14 days to self-quarantine, that they have not recently been in contact with anyone suspected of being infected with COVID-19, and they, or another household member, have not within the last 14 days traveled to any area requiring self-quarantine upon return.
When participating in programs, all individuals will be asked to observe social distancing guidelines, including maintaining a distance of at least 2 metres between themselves and other participants.
Participants in classroom activities are asked to sanitize their hands each time they enter or leave the classroom. Sanitizer is provided. Participants using KDSC washrooms are asked to take special care to wash their hands thoroughly (at least 20 seconds) with hot water and soap.
KDSC instructors will wear a mask if their instruction necessitates that they stand or pass within 2 metres of any participant. Instructors are also required to wear gloves when they handle surfaces that may subsequently be touched by a participant.
Within the KDSC facility, gloves and masks will be available to any participant that requests them.
The KDSC facility has posted occupancy limits for each room, which we require all participants and instructors to observe.
Thank you for your cooperation!
